For the third year running Sanguinetti Sensei, appointed as the official representative to the west by Matayoshi Kodokan in Okinawa, gave another excellent Gasshuku weekend. This was held at the Leeds Armouries, hosted by Clayton Sensei over 4 days for Kodokan students. Various sensei and students of all levels and styles were training during the open Saturday session. Sanguinetti Sensei taught the art of the Bo, and Sai during this session. For the Matayoshi Kodokan students all weapons were practiced from the Bo, Sai, Tunkua and Nunchaku. The weekend ended with a grading for Clayton Sensei students, two of which received Shodan - Well done to all
For a 4th year the Matayoshi Kobudo UK has had instruction from Sensei Franco Sanguinetti, 6th Dan during the recent Gasshuku. The three day event provided further instruction for the students interested in Matayoshi Kobudo. The students came from Europe and all over the UK to Darlington between the 28th to 30th May 2010.
On the Friday evening, for Matayoshi Kobudo instructors, Sanguinetti Sensei taught a range of techniques, from Bo, Sai and Nunchaku. He explained the finer details on how to strike with nunchaku, without the weapon bouncing back towards the user. The Saturday session covered instruction in Bo, and Tonfa hojo undo and the kumi waza. Sanguinetti Sensei stressed throughout the day about the “Body and Weapon are One” and not to “Muscle” the techniques.
On the evening 21 students took part at the Gasshuku’s evening meal at China Red Buffet Restaurant. This was followed by a get together at the Hotel for drinks and a chat with Sensei.
The Sunday saw more students coming to train, with a Yunbi undo (warm-up), followed by quick revision of Bo No Hojo Undo. Sensei also covered the aspect of “Go No Sen”, “Sen No Sen” and “Sen, Sen No Sen” during Kumi Waza (Sparring Techniques). At the end of the event a grading took place for Sensei Bateman’s students.
The day finally came to an end with specially thank you to Sanguinetti Sensei coming once again to the UK. Also thank you went out to other Sensei, from Matayoshi Kobudo UK and Portugal, and Sensei that came from over the
UK.
This was held in Bolton during March 2011. Instructors had two days training, with juniors being taught for the first time in the UK by Sanguinetti Sensei. For the instructors, the completion of Nunti No Kata, and refinements in its application was taught. The juniors were introduced to Bo Hojo Undo Dai Ichi, while the seniors covered Sai and Tunkua Bunkai. During the senior session Sensei explained the important of power, using the floor and hips in addition with the pulling hand. Explanation in the penetrating application was also covered with Bo and Sai.
Over the weekend, which was held in Darlington in September, Sanguinetti gave tuition in Bo Hojo undo, 1 to 3 with associated Bunkai, Shushi No Kun and Bunkai, Sai and Tunkua. For the Instructors, more detailed instruction was given in Bo Hojo Undo Dai San and Bunkai, Choun No Kun, Sai Kata, Tunkua Kata, Nunchaku, Nunti Kata and Ueku Kata. The Gasshuku meal was a great a success and enjoyed by all and attendees went back with Sensei for drinks and socialising. During the weekend grading took place and all passed. Students now can't wait until Sanguinetti Sensei returns next year for our 7th UK Gasshuku.
